Kovan Apps Yazılım Ltd. Şti. (“Company”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) built the Traffic Cams & Road Conditions app (the “App”) as a free, ad-supported application available on both Google Play (Android) and the Apple App Store (iOS). The App shows publicly available traffic cameras, crashes, closures, work zones and winter road conditions published by state departments of transportation across the United States, together with National Weather Service warnings and National Hurricane Center advisories. This SERVICE is provided by Kovan Apps at no cost and is intended for use as is.

This page informs visitors regarding our policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information if anyone decides to use our Service. By using our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy.

1. Information Collection and Use

For a better experience while using our Service, the App may request certain information. Most information is retained on your device and is not collected by us directly, except as described below.

2. Traffic Camera and Road Data

The App displays traffic camera snapshots, incident and closure reports, work zones and winter road conditions published by state departments of transportation (DOTs) through their public 511 systems. Specifically:

• Camera images are loaded by your device directly from each DOT’s public servers on demand and refreshed about every 60 seconds; images are not stored on our servers.
• Incident, closure, work-zone and road-condition data is fetched from public DOT feeds and cached briefly on our backend so that thousands of users do not hit the agencies’ servers at once.
• Cameras that a DOT has marked offline are filtered out before they reach your device.
• This data is public record and contains no personally identifiable information.
• We are not affiliated with any DOT and do not claim ownership of any traffic data. Coverage is listed in the App under More → Data sources; states marked “coming soon” show national weather data only.

3. Weather and Hurricane Data

The App shows weather warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS), winter-storm severity from NOAA and hurricane tracking from the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Specifically:

• Weather alerts, winter-storm outlooks and hurricane advisories are fetched from public NWS, NOAA and NHC feeds and cached briefly for performance.
• When you open a camera, the App asks our backend for the warnings that apply to that camera’s location, never to your own position.
• None of this data contains personal information.
• Weather information is for informational purposes only and should not be used as the sole basis for travel or emergency decisions. Always consult official sources and local emergency management.

4. Subscription Data

The App offers optional premium (“Pro”) subscriptions managed through RevenueCat. When you subscribe:

• Payment is processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). We do not collect or store your payment details (credit card numbers, billing address, etc.).
• RevenueCat receives an anonymous subscriber ID and purchase receipt to validate your subscription status.
• We store your subscription status locally on your device to unlock premium features.

5. Push Notifications and Alerts

The App offers opt-in push notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM):

• Severe weather and hurricane alerts (free) are delivered through topic subscriptions for the areas you pick. We do not associate your device token with any personal identifier.
• Highway alerts (Pro) let you choose highways, directions and mile ranges to watch for closures, crashes, chain laws and winter conditions. To deliver them, our backend stores your alert rules together with your device’s push token and an anonymous Firebase identifier. No name, email, phone number or location history is collected.
• Alert rules can be edited or deleted at any time in the App under Alerts. Deleting a rule removes it from our servers; uninstalling the App invalidates the push token. See our Delete Your Data page.

You may disable notifications at any time through your device’s system settings or within the App.

6. Location Data

The App may request access to your device’s approximate or precise location to center the map on your position and show the nearest cameras. Location data is:

• Used only locally on your device to center the map and sort nearby cameras.
• Never stored on our servers and never shared with third parties. The map area you are viewing (not your position) is sent to our backend to load the cameras inside it.
• Entirely optional — the App works without location access; you can pick a state or search instead.

Route check (Pro): if you ask for cameras and conditions along a route, the start and end points you enter are sent to our backend, which asks Mapbox Directions for the road geometry and returns the cameras along it. The request is processed in memory and is not stored.

7. Log Data

Whenever you use our Service, in the case of an error in the App, we collect data and information (through third-party products) called Log Data. This Log Data may include:

• Your device’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address (truncated, for abuse prevention)
• Device name and operating system version
• App configuration when utilizing our Service
• Time and date of your use of the Service
• Other diagnostic statistics

8. Cookies

Cookies are files with a small amount of data commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers. This Service does not use cookies explicitly. However, the App may use third-party code and libraries that use cookies to collect information and improve their services.

9. Service Providers

We may employ third-party companies and individuals to facilitate our Service, provide the Service on our behalf, perform Service-related services, or assist us in analyzing how our Service is used. These third parties have access to your Personal Information only to perform tasks assigned on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

10. Advertising and Tracking

The App is ad-supported for free users. Ads are served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device’s advertising identifier and other non-personal data to serve relevant ads.

iOS (Apple)

On iOS, the App uses Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework. Before any tracking occurs, you will be asked for permission via a system dialog. If you choose “Ask App Not to Track,” no tracking data will be collected for advertising purposes. You can change this at any time in:

• Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking

Android

On Android, you can opt out of personalized advertising through:

• Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization

Pro subscribers do not see ads. Subscribing removes all advertising from the App.

11. Data Security

We value your trust in providing us your Personal Information and strive to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. All network communication with our backend uses HTTPS/TLS encryption. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

12. Data Retention

We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy:

• Crash logs and analytics: Retained by Firebase for up to 90 days.
• Traffic and weather cache: Automatically invalidated within minutes on our servers; no long-term storage.
• Push notification history: We retain hashed event identifiers for up to 48 hours to prevent duplicate notifications; these contain no personal data.
• Highway alert rules and push token (Pro): Retained on our backend until you delete the rule in the App, request deletion by email, or the token has been invalid for 60 days.
• Subscription data: Retained by RevenueCat for the duration of your subscription and up to 30 days after cancellation.
• Favorites and preferences: Stored locally on your device and deleted when you uninstall the App.

13. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: You may request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
• Deletion: You may request that we delete any personal data associated with you. Since we do not require accounts, most data is stored locally on your device and is removed when you uninstall the App.
• Opt-out: You may opt out of personalized advertising and tracking as described in Section 10, and opt out of push notifications through your device’s system settings.
• Portability: You may request your data in a portable format.

This Service may contain links to other sites, including state DOT, NWS, NHC, and Mapbox resources. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. These external sites are not operated by us. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of any third-party websites you visit. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of third-party sites or services.
